5 Things You Should Know About Blackheads
Comedones aka: BLACKHEADS
We’ve ALL had blackheads from time to time. They’re stubborn, annoying parts of life we all wish would just disappear…FOREVER! Admit it, we’ve done some crazy things to get rid of them. So, I thought it would be good to go over some of the basics. (Pause that blackhead removal video for a few sec and read below.)
1) What are Blackheads?
Blackheads are hair follicles that are filled with dead skin cells, bacteria and sebum (oil).
2) Why are they black?
The sebum in the pore contains melanin and when the sebum reaches the surface of the pore, it is exposed to air which causes them to oxidizes and turn dark.
3) What causes them?
They’re caused by an over-production of oil.
4) Do nose (pore) strips really work?
They temporarily remove blackheads but won’t prevent them from coming back. Over-using them can strip the skin of its natural oils and cause irritation and even lead to broken capillaries. Nose strips can also stretch the pores, which can cause more buildup and more noticeable blackheads!
5) Does washing frequently prevent them?
Cleansing more often than necessary will dry out and irritate your skin causing an over-production of oil and more blackheads. Cleansing twice a day, morning and evening can help remove impurities that have accumulated during the day and night. This is the most important method of preventing and minimizing blackheads.
Keeping your skin clean and well balanced is the key to minimizing blackheads. Come see me or book a facial and learn about my 3 step plan to effectively reduce the appearance of pores and get that flawless skin you’ve always wanted.
